Shenandoah Permaculture Institute Fall 2021 Permaculture Design Course
From the SPI website: "Permaculture is an ethically based design approach to creating sustainable human communities. Although rooted in agriculture, Permaculture design also touches on ecological restoration, community development, urban planning, energy systems, and architecture.
This Permaculture Design Course (PDC) is geared towards serious homesteading and commercial Permaculture farming in the Mid-Atlantic. This is an opportunity to learn Permaculture Design from professional farmers who are doing the work!
We base our courses in hands-on, practical Permaculture, and we focus on demystifying foundational concepts to give our students the confidence and skills to jump right into their own projects. We work to hone design skills as a group and as individuals, and we also really lean in to social Permaculture, giving students important framework for success in their communities."
The course will be taught over 4 weekends, with one 3 day weekend, for a total of 9 days:
September 3, 4, 5
September 18, 19
October 2, 3
November 6, 7
$975 Early Bird Discount through June 30th, 2021. $1,175 after June 30th.
Previous Permaculture Design Courses have been hosted by farms we admire like Polyface Farms–here you can see Joel Salatin addressing PDC attendees as part of the course!
Heavy snacks, coffee, tea, and kombucha will be provided. Meals will be on your own (we will have access to a kitchen for food storage and simple meal prep). 1Tribe's FarmStore is stocked with pasture and forest raised (and finished!) beef, pork, chicken, eggs, and other delicious food, right on site–with the extra convenience of being able to order ahead!
LOCATION & ACCOMMODATIONS
This year, the Fall Permaculture Design Course will be hosted at 1Tribe Farm, a working regenerative farm and retreat center in Mount Sidney, Virginia. Throughout the rolling pastures and forests brimming with diverse plant and wildlife, you'll also find rotationally grazing South Poll Cattle, forest-dwelling heritage breed pigs, and an array of meat- and egg-providing fowl– collaborators that help us work with and benefit from the land. Scattered through the farm are a variety of gardens, including a fledgeling permaculture food forest, flower gardens, vegetable and herb gardens–there's so much to see and experience while you're here!
And the best part of all? You can stay at 1Tribe for the Fall 2021 Permaculture Design Course!
We've reserved our Primitive Cabins for Fall 2021 PDC attendees–there's nothing more convenient than being right here! Each cabin has just enough for your comfort and enjoyment; featuring a queen sized bed, dresser, and front porches facing the sunrise, all ten cabins are conveniently located around a communal-use bathroom, pavilion, and fire pit. You can read more about and see pictures of the cabins and our other accommodations here!
Why drive back and forth for each day of the course when you could end a long day of hands-on learning relaxing and socializing by the fire, sleeping in a cozy cabin, waking up to a beautiful sunrise...and just a short walk for a commute? At just $59/night, staying in one of our cabins is an affordable and comfortable way to get that much more from this year's Permaculture Design Course. We also offer a variety of add-on experiences such as meals with Chef Palmer of Twice Baked Provisions and massage services by Martha Kartaoui of PIC Wellness to make your stay that much more enjoyable–just mention your interest when you get in contact.
Our available spaces are limited–just 10 cabins that can accommodate 2 adults in the same bed–get in touch and reserve yours before they're all gone!
